    What Makes a Garden Grow?

    As spring rolls around in Western Montana many early childhood programs look to getting outside and enjoying the long missed sunshine. Planting and growing is such an essential part of spring. This class is for every level of garden enthusiast, whether you have always wanted to start a garden with your childcare kiddos, or you have been gardening for years with your little ones. This class will help providers start or strengthen existing school gardens, link what’s going on in the garden to the classroom curriculum, and help children develop a deeper understanding of growing cycles, the earth and the healthy foods that can come from the earth.

    Early Childhood Rules and Regulations

    If you missed the last Provider Forum or if you are still a bit confused by the new licensing rules and regulations or any of the new changes through the state, this FREE event is for you! We are coming to your area to answer questions, and help you navigate the new waters of Early Childhood in our State. The first 2 hours of our forum, will include discussion on the new regulations that have had the greatest impact on facilities in our region, as well as a Q&A portion with representatives from: Provider Services/STARS, Best Beginnings, and a representative from licensing. The final hour will be reserved for Web assistance with your Registry accounts, or for anything else you might need. We will have computers available– bring any paperwork that you need uploaded into the ECP site.

    Pyramid Model: Montana Blended Module 2

    This course will explore the second level of the Pyramid Model aimed at preventing challenging behavior. In Module 1 we learned about the importance of building positive relationships and designing supportive environments. This Module builds on what was learned in Module 1 by learning effective strategies, ideas and resources to teach children friendship skills, emotional literacy, development of empathy, impulse control and problem solving. Prerequisites: Introduction to the Pyramid Model (on and Pyramid Module 1.

    Circle of Security

    In order for children to experience enhanced learning it is important for infant, toddler, and preschool staff members to have an understanding of attachment theory. The goal of the COS-C approach is to make the theory of attachment accessible to early educators.
    The ten-hour curriculum designed for parents works equally well for teaching child care providers about attachment offering an understanding of the:
    • Reciprocal relationship between attachment and exploratory systems;
    • Secure, insecure and disorganized attachment;
    • The need to move from behavioral approaches to seeing problem behaviors as communication regarding attachment needs;
    • How to respond sensitively to children’s cues that indicate their attachment needs and understand miscues as insecure strategies that children use to hide their needs;
    • Ways for adults to manage their own defensiveness around certain attachment needs.
    Another component of COS-C is to help teachers assess their relationships with specific children and develop a plan to enhance the security of the relationship when needed (Zero to Three, 2017).

    Understanding the Best Beginnings Child Care Scholarship

    This is a chance to hear from The Nurturing Center’s Child Care Eligibility Manager about the program policies, procedures, and changes to the Best Beginning Scholarship. The presentations will include plenty of time for questions and answers so that providers are receiving information that is applicable to their work with the scholarship program. If you have ever wondered why things are done the way they are, here’s your chance to find out.
