This course introduces providers to the statewide agencies and programs in Montana that support quality early care and education programs. The course also includes information on program quality. Topics include licensing requirements, child development, curriculum, environments, guidance, family partnerships and professionalism.
This course is required for new directors within 90 days of hire or role change.

This course provides information to early childhood professionals regarding the Early Childhood system in MT. Early childhood practices that promote health, safety, professionalism and quality care and education are explained. Community resources to support early childhood professionals, families and children are presented.

We will explore how a child’s challenging behavior is used as a means of communicating and getting his or her needs met. We will focus on the importance of building relationships with children, families and colleagues and how environments, schedules and routines play a critical role in supporting children’s social and emotional development and preventing challenging behavior. Prerequisite: Introduction to Pyramid Model on childcaretraining.org.This course is free for all participants.

In order for children to experience enhanced learning it is important for infant, toddler, and preschool staff members to have an understanding of attachment theory. The goal of the COS-C approach is to make the theory of attachment accessible to early educators.
The ten-hour curriculum designed for parents works equally well for teaching child care providers about attachment offering an understanding of the:
• Reciprocal relationship between attachment and exploratory systems;
• Secure, insecure and disorganized attachment;
• The need to move from behavioral approaches to seeing problem behaviors as communication regarding attachment needs;
• How to respond sensitively to children’s cues that indicate their attachment needs and understand miscues as insecure strategies that children use to hide their needs;
• Ways for adults to manage their own defensiveness around certain attachment needs.
Another component of COS-C is to help teachers assess their relationships with specific children and develop a plan to enhance the security of the relationship when needed (Zero to Three, 2017).
